The Department of Emergency and Critical Disease

The Department of Emergency and Critical Disease is a key discipline of Shanghai General Hospital. At present, it is Shanghai Emergency Center of Heart Disease, Shanghai Emergency Center for Critical Pregnant and Lying-in Woman, Shanghai Emergency Specialist Training Base, Shanghai Combined Discipline of Key Discipline Construction in Public Health, Global Medicos Rotation Base of Medical Center of University of Toledo and Clinical Teaching Demonstration Area of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The Department is set up at both Southern and Northern Branch, covering a total area of about 8300m2. There are 35 fixed beds and 82 ICU beds. Its self-owned assets of instruments and equipment reach over RMB 50 million, which covers large respirator (including adult HF respirator), continuous renal replacement therapeutic machine, portable diasonograph, haemodynamics monitor, intracranial pressure monitor, automatic stryker frame, autoblood feedback system, intra-aortic balloon pump, C-arm X-ray machine (with DSA function), washing, sterilizing and spray system and other special diagnosis and treatment equipment for critical disease.

The Department of Trauma and Repair was established based on modern emergency medicine pattern at the Southern Branch of Shanghai General Hospital. It is composed of Emergency Treatment Room, Emergency ICU, Emergency Operation Room and Emergency Surgical Ward, with well-established hardware facilities; the specialists with surgical trauma experience and operation ability of relevant specialty can provide treatment service in 24 hours, which reaches to the requirement of American trauma center at grade I. As a department of critical disease and emergency medicine, it depends on a general ICU with 64 monitoring beds, advanced facilities and technologies, which provides better treatment conditions for serious injury, multiple injury and combined injury.
